Here is the link to a quick sample of what my dvd "Mark Zonder, 2 Cameras, 5 Drums and 13 Tracks". Obviously it is a bit compressed to be on you tube. The audio was mixed by Joe Marlett who did the Slavior album and the dvd is available at www.markzonder.com for $10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQIvushnazU

The last run of clinics went really well and I had a great time. I really do enjoy them. There is some very exciting news that will be posted in the next few days, so check back.

March 11, 2009

Last weekend I sat down in the studio and knocked out my first homemade DVD, entitled....."me, two cameras and a computer". This is not an instructional video, but an audio and visual representation of the 13 songs and ideas that I use at my clinics. There is a good camera angle of the hands and a camera on the bass drum foot. My friend Chris Grosso at Take Two Visual Media in NY will be doing the editing while Joe Marlett who engineered the Slavior album is going to mix the audio. It should be available in the next couple weeks. Check back or go to www.myspace.com/markzonder to order. Hope to see you at an upcoming clinic.

Here are the links to the Quicktime versions of the Lauten Microphones clips. Please Right-click, Save Target As.

Also, go to www.Lautenaudio.com and go under the sessions tab and you can see the Mark Zonder video clips that were made for the Lauten Microphone Co. These are much clearer than the you tube clips.

February 10, 2009

I was asked by Lauten Microphones to record a few clips using their mics. I have been a big fan of these mics for quite awhile now. These were done live with me playing to a recorded music track. All of the drums are live in my studio. Go to www.Lautenaudio.com to get the specs on signal path etc... I have been told by you tube that in the next day or so the clips will be a bit clearer. Also I will post in the next couple days links to QuickTime Movies as these are very clean and clear. But for now enjoy.

The Sam Ash Clinics last Tues the 16th and Wed the 17th went great. The first clinic was at the new Sam Ash Drum Shop in Hollywood. Great drum store with everything you could think of as well as a great sounding room. My drums sounded great in the large room and I really had a good time. Sort of cool doing a clinic and looking out on Sunset Blvd. at the sametime. Dave Elrod and his staff did a great job and really helped me out. The second clinic, the next day was at the Puente Hills Mall. It rained all day and I thought this was going to be a mess as I was sick as a dog. Another great store and Dave and his staff were just as helpful as the day before. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how many people showed up. After doing a few of the clinics in the LA area, I am starting to see some of the same people coming to more than one clinic. Zildjian, Remo, Vater and Toca had all of the great giveaways. Everyone left with a prize of some kind.

Starting to line up some clinics for next year. The San Diego area is a main focus at this point. Really love doing these clinics. You can be the drummer and lead vocalist at the sametime!!!

SAM ASH DRUM CLINICS

I will be doing two clinics next week. First clinic is on the 16th of Dec. at the new Grand Opening of the Sam Ash Drum Store in Hollywood. 7401 W. Sunset Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90046, 323 436-0388. I will be playing stuff from Fates Warning, Slavior, Warlord and getting into various drum topics including how to come up with parts and electronics as well as a bunch of other stuff. My sponsors which are Zildjian, Remo, Vater, Toca and GMS are really great at sending a bunch of free giveaway stuff.

The second clinic is the next day, the 17th at the Sam Ash store in Puente Hills. 18031 Gale Ave. City of Industry, CA 91748, 626 839-8177. Both clinics start around 6:30 pm. Hope to see you at the clinics!!

Here is a link to three short clips from the MI clinic. These are demonstrations of three different subjects I was exploring at the clinics. The first one is use of the Clave in a heavy rock format. Clip 2 deals with building a groove and clip 3 shows how electronics can be used in today's rock music. I had a great time doing these clinics and will have more planned in the future.

November 2, 2008

This past week was a very busy week with three clinics. The first one was on Monday at Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Don't miss LA much, but what a great way to start my clinic career. Tim Pedersen, Stuart Jean, T and all of the stage guys were great. This place is professional and they made it very easy and enjoyable. The students were great and really enjoy the day's activities. Many of my companies had sent along door prizes and the highlight was one of the students going home with a brand new Zildjian Crash Cymbal. Not a bad day at the office. Thanks again guys.

Clinic two was the next day the Guitar Center in Fountain Valley. Candace and her staff did a great job getting things going. A bit different as we needed to setup a sound system, but once up, everything was great. The staff were very good and supportive.

Clinic three was Thursday at Guitar Center in Covina. Manager Guy Murai did an excellent job in promoting this event and the place was packed. The sound system was great and it was an amazing evening. All of the staff were helpful and very pleasant. I was sort of surprised at the range and variance of the people who came. I had a great time. I am in the middle of putting some of the songs together to be put up on youtube. Should be in the next couple days. Keep posted.

October 20, 2008

As I am gearing up for my clinics, Slavior is still looking for the right singer to complete our second album. We have worked with a few talented guys, but have not found the exact match as of yet. We have some nice strong songs for the second album, but need the voice to complete it. Please feel free to write and attach samples to studio41658@gmail.com.

October 18, 2008

Monday October 27th I have been invited to do a clinic at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA. Even though this is not open to the public, the entire clinic will be shot on high quality dvd and I will release and post some of the clinic. Keep checking back.

October 5, 2008

Everything is is moving along well with my drum clinics. I currently have 4 in the next month in the Southern California area. Please check www.myspace.com/markzonder for all of the dates. I have been very busy as I never realized how much time and work is required for these clinics. I have made a promo dvd that will play in the stores a couple weeks prior. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuLbP_6STrQ is the link to the ad section of the dvd.

The rest of the 13 minute dvd are a couple clips from Slavior and Fates. I am planning to do more clinics after the first of the year.

The drum clinics are starting to shape up as I have two tentative dates at the present. Nov. 12th at the Sam Ash in Hollywood and Nov.13th at the Sam Ash in Puente Hills. I have also been invited to do a clinic at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, with a date to follow. I will be playing some music from my past and present as well as diving into some drum topics as well. The clinics are designed for the beginner to the advanced player.

I have been doing some tracking for Tony Vinci and his band Speaking to Stones. Serious heavy prog rock stuff. Tony is a very talented, underrated guitar player and composer. I am really enjoying it and find Tony very easy to work with.

I am accepting other recording projects as well, as I have a good time working on various styles of music. www.myspace.com/markzonder is officially up and running and will have all of the clinic dates posted.

August 6, 2008

Well it is official....Mark Zonder has a myspace page. I went kicking and screaming, but everyone was telling me how I had to have one. This will work out good as my clinics start, it will be easy to get the dates. Also there will be music posted that never came out on cd. There is some real cool, different stuff on the site. Check the songs, Jazz Improv and Better Russian. I was working with a keyboard player named David Lockwood a few years back and we did some cool stuff. Check it out at www.myspace.com/markzonder!

August 3, 2008

Through my good friends at Summit Audio I have been introduced to a new line of microphones by Lauten Audio. These are top of the line, state of the art mics at a very reasonable price. Check out www.lautenaudio.com The mics sound amazing on drums as well as overheads and room mics. I will be using these on my upcoming clinics. Check back for the dates.

July 29, 2008

I am going to be doing some drum clinics in the CA area in the next 4-5 weeks. I will be playing to some Fates Warning, Warlord and Slavior tracks as well as covering drum topics such how I come up with parts, electronics and various other topics. I will also be discussing music business related topics as well. As soon as I have dates, they will be posted. Also a myspace is being prepared and will also have the dates.

July 2, 2008

Slavior is currently working with a new singer we really like and will keep everyone posted on the progress. The second album is done, so it should not be long. I have just finish recording my tracks for the band Psychic for Radio. The album will be entitled Standing Wave. Members include Michael Sadler of Saga, Kurt Barabas, Sean Entrikin, Scott Kingsbury and Shawn Gordon. I had a great time recording both original songs and a couple covers that have some cool twists. Check out http://www.myspace.com/psychicforradioband.

I am currently looking for other recording projects as I really enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone and working on other material. Feel free to contact me at: studio41658@gmail.com.

May 9, 2008

Slavior is currently looking for a new vocalist/lyricist for the second album. All of the material is written and ready to go. Gregg Analla has had the good fortune to become very busy with his art work and just does not have the time to commit to the band. Gregg has some serious opportunities for his art and we all feel it is a blessing for him. He is doing some amazing stuff with his art and we wish him all of the best. A mutual decision was made by all of us.

Interested vocalist can send links and samples to studio41658@gmail.com. Please check out www.myspace.com/slaviorband

Slavior will be playing a few songs from the debut self entitled Slavior album this year at the Namm Show. We will be playing at the Steinberg Tech. booth on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19 2008 at 2:00 PM. We will be using some of the products that Steinberg is world famous for, such as Cubase 4 and Nuendo. We will also be giving away copies of the album. Hope to see you at the show.

December 9, 2007

Slavior will be playing this year at the Namm Show in Anaheim. We will be playing some acoustic songs on Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, 2008 at 2 P.me. in the Steinberg Technology booth. We did a similar show in Japan back in August.

Slavior is also finishing up the second album and will be doing some recording during this same period while Gregg is here from New Mexico. Hope to see everyone at the Steinberg booth.

November 6, 2007

Slavior has been continuing to write for the next album. Things are going well and it seems as the writing is very cohesive and focused. The new material has a bit more edge to it as we continue to focus on strong vocal oriented songs.

Philip is in South America with Steve Vai and will finish up the last two songs when he gets back.

I have been doing recording projects for other people and find it fun. I enjoy the challenge. Some tracks have had specific directions, while others let me run wild. I just did a version of "Nights in White Satin" that is very cool. Michael Sadler of Saga fame is doing the vocals. What a great singer.

I am still accepting projects and can be contacted at msz416@gmail.com

Here is a link to the latest Slavior video Another Planet. This is about as down and dirty as it gets. Two hand held cameras and a nasty board mix. But this is a good representation of the band. Hope you like it.
